Material supply agreement signed between ReSource Denmark and Finnish service company Lassila & Tikanoja (L&T)

A supply agreement for the annual delivery of at least 20,000 tons of Finnish household plastic waste has been secured for ReSource Denmark, the country's largest plastic waste sorting plant. For ReSource, the annual value of the multi-year contract is in line with the company's expectations.

The agreement with L&T is the first of its kind for ReSource Denmark, which will be a significant contributor to achieving plastic recycling targets in the Nordics once operational. There is a great need for infrastructure for sorting plastic waste. ReSource is a crucial link in the value chain for recycling plastic waste. The plant is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2023 with the capacity to sort up to 160,000 tons of mixed plastic waste annually into recyclable fractions.

L&T will deliver at least 20,000 tons of Finnish household waste per year to ReSource, with the first deliveries in 2023. The agreement runs for two years with an option to extend.

ReSource's owners, Quantafuel ASA and Eurazeo SE, welcome the news:

Martin Sichelkow, Eurazeo's Managing Director of the Infrastructure team and board member of ReSource, said:

"This agreement with L&T, the first for ReSource, with a recognized customer and large volume, is a key milestone in positioning us as a key player in the Nordics. We are proud to be able to receive, process and sort plastics from as early as 2023."

Thomas Steenbuch Tharaldsen, board member at ReSource, says:

"This agreement cements our strategy to become a key player in realizing Denmark's and Europe's targets for sorting and recycling plastic waste. We share a responsibility to protect nature and the environment from the harmful effects of plastics that are not sorted for recycling. Our facilities ensure that plastics are given a new life. Although ReSource is now starting to receive plastic from Finnish households, the message is clear. This is Denmark's sorting facility and everyone will be able to increase their sorting and recycling by sending their plastic waste here. ReSource's primary role in Denmark will be to bring together stakeholders who want to contribute to increasing the recycling of plastics."

Construction of ReSource in Esbjerg is well underway. The facility will be the largest of its kind in Denmark and will consist of a state-of-the-art, high-tech sorting plant that separates plastic waste into monofractions suitable for all types of recycling facilities, including mechanical and chemical recycling.

Ville Vainio, Director of the Environmental Department at L&T, says:

"Our mission is to make circular economy a reality. L&T is pleased to offer a solution for plastic waste from the EPR organization Finnish Packaging Producers Ltd together with ReSource. ReSource's strong focus on sustainability and traceability is in line with our own. We look forward to a good cooperation in the years to come."
